Substitute Teacher Application Process

The Indiana Department of Education will no longer accept paper applications to apply for an original substitute teaching permit or to renew an existing permit. Applications must be submitted through the new DOE licensing system called LVIS. To access this site, please go to the following website: https://license.doe.in.gov.

You will need to create a profile. Once you have created your profile, please follow the steps to complete your licensing procedure. Payment will be required online via credit card.

NOTE:

Even if you are renewing a substitute permit, please choose the “original” option instead of “renewal.”. At this time, the LVIS site does not recognize the “renewal” option.
